{KXLG – Watertown, SD} Codington County Commissioners met Tuesday morning and voted to approve a truck purchase for the Highway Department.
The budget for next year includes funds for a truck and a dump body, but a newly available truck prompted discussion about purchasing it this year.
Interim Highway Superintendent Lynn Solberg explained that the new truck would be used as a plow truck. After discussions with a salesman, it was determined that switching the order to a semi-truck would be too costly. Instead, the proposal was to purchase the truck from the current equipment budget this year and acquire the dump body next year.
Commissioner VanDusen moved to approve the truck purchase, which Commissioner Gabel seconded.
The approved amount for the truck is $143,792. It was also discussed that replacing older trucks in the future and using an online auction to sell surplus equipment would be a decision to be made by the incoming superintendent.
